Elite Sport's Secret Weapon: Functional Sleepwear from Dagsmejan
“Good sleep is really important to me. Peak performance requires peak recovery, and one of the most important elements of recovery is sleep,” says Swiss biathlete Lena Häcki who, like many top athletes, relies on the functional properties of Dagsmejan sleepwear.

HOW GOOD SLEEP CAN IMPROVE PERFORMANCE
In elite sports, it’s a well-known fact that recovery between training sessions is just as important as the training itself, if not more. An essential aspect of this recovery is sleep, and it’s not just the amount of time you’re asleep that matters – athletes should get an average of eight hours – it’s largely down to the quality of sleep.
Those who sleep well will recover quicker and more effectively. Our bodies regenerate while we sleep and strengthen the areas we’ve demanded the most from during the day while training: our muscles and tissues. The processes required for this start as soon as our bodies secrete the growth hormone somatotropin, and this only happens in the deep sleep stage.
This is the sleep stage that’s most affected if we’re too hot or cold at night, and at least seven out of ten athletes report this kind of temperature fluctuation. If we’re shivering or sweating, we don’t sleep as deeply and consequently spend less or no time at all in the deep sleep stage.
“As a top athlete, sleep, and therefore recovery, are of crucial importance. Because I travel a lot, I always have my own pillow with me, and recently the Dagsmejan pajamas have also been part of my standard kit because they help me regulate my body temperature.” (Linda Indergand, Swiss mountain biker and Olympic medalist)
Anything that helps us to maintain the optimum temperature for sleep, therefore, supports our body’s regeneration. Dagsmejan sleepwear does exactly that: it’s breathable and ensures the perfect temperature and moisture management for the most rejuvenating sleep possible.
FUNCTIONAL SLEEPWEAR PART OF THE BASIC KIT FOR ELITE ATHLETES
Former professional ice hockey player and current head coach Patrick Fischer is so convinced of the positive impact of functional sleepwear that Dagsmejan pajamas are now part of the basic kit of the Swiss national ice hockey team.
“Good-quality sleep is a key element of the recovery system of any player, and every detail counts.” (Patrick Fischer, head coach of the Swiss national ice hockey team)
Studies have shown that athletes quite regularly report sleep problems. In addition to the problems with temperature regulation already mentioned, top athletes in particular often train well into the evening. This elevates the heart rate, which in turn leads to muscle tension and the release of stress hormones. Both have a negative impact on falling and staying asleep. Athletes in particular should do everything they can to support their bodies in achieving the best sleep possible. Functional sleepwear is the answer.
DAGSMEJAN: FOR BETTER SLEEP AND FASTER RECOVERY
When training and competing, it goes without saying that we wear functional clothing. Why not also when we sleep? It was this question that prompted Catarina Dahlin and Andreas Lenzhofer, the couple who founded Dagsmejan, to research and develop functional sleepwear a few years ago.
Together with Swiss materials scientists from the EMPA, sleep researchers from the University of Stockholm, and experts from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences, they created an entirely new kind of sleepwear tailored to the needs of our bodies while we’re sleeping. It…
- is 8x more breathable than cotton,
- is 4x softer than cotton, and
- wicks away moisture 4x as efficiently as cotton.
“When training, every aspect is optimized, but it’s sleep that actually forms the basis of my performance. Since the very first time I tried the Dagsmejan sleepwear, it has become a permanent feature of my sleep routine.” (Fabian Meeusen, Swiss triathlon champion)
The optimum temperature balance is guaranteed by Dagsmejan’s Balance collection. The supersoft, breathable sleepwear helps the body with temperature regulation so that it can stay in its thermal comfort zone – so you have a good night’s sleep and wake up refreshed in the morning.
“Good sleep is a critical factor in our performance. Dagsmejan has developed a new type of functional sleepwear that’s perfectly adapted to the requirements of our bodies when we sleep. I personally would highly recommend these products.” (Dr Patrik Noack, Chief Medical Officer of the Swiss Olympic team, Medbase sports medicine)
