It's getting hot in here

Our summers are getting warmer, on average over 2 °C warmer than in the pre-industrial days. Did you know that 5 of the 6 hottest summers in Switzerland's history have all occurred in the last eight years? Hotter days means hotter nights which in turn can impact our sleep quality negatively.

In order to fall asleep, our body needs to lower its core temperature enough to allow for the production of a sufficient quantity of the sleep hormone melatonin. So, if it’s hot out, we might fall asleep later than usual and, since our body will struggle to stay in its thermal comfort zone, our sleep will be affected.

By sleeping cool we can sleep better. And by sleeping better we can make sure we get the most out of every day and every race.

“It is no news that sleep quality and athletes’ performance are closely linked, so it is a real priority for us. With?Dagsmejan sleepwear,?Tudor pro-cycling team riders are offered optimized sleep quality and increased muscle recovery. A real opportunity for us.” (Fabian Cancellara, founder Tudor Pro Racing Team & Swiss cycling legend)

Beat the heat: 5 tips to sleep better this summer

The good news is that there are a few things we can do to help our bodies get a good night’s rest despite rising temperatures:

  1. Keep your bedroom drapes closed during the day and your windows open at night when the outside air has cooled down a bit.
  2. Keep the light out before bedtime by closing drapes or blinds shortly before you go to bed. A sleep mask can help as well.
  3. Keep your dinner light, especially if you are eating later than usual. Avoid heavy, spicy foods, as well as stimulating substances such as caffeine and alcohol.
  4. Keep your sleep schedule as regular as possible. This means going to bed and getting up at roughly the same time, even on weekends.
  5. Wear the right fabrics in bed. Your sleepwear should be light, breathable, and help your body regulate its temperature throughout the night, for example by absorbing moisture to keep you cool and dry.

“For me as a top athlete, sleep and recovery are the most important things. I often get very hot and sweaty during the night, but thanks to the innovative NATTCOOL technology, this is a thing of the past." (Linda Indergand, mountainbiker and olympic medalist)

Why top athletes choose Dagsmejan to sleep cool

Studies show that it’s not just in summer that many athletes are too hot to sleep at night. Seven out of ten state sweat at night all year round. In summer this becomes even more challenging. Cooling pajamas from the Dagsmejan Stay Cool collection are the answer.

Dagsmejan’s innovative NATTCOOL™ fabric is produced using natural eucalyptus fibers, which make for a lightweight material that:

  • is 8x more breathable than cotton,
  • regulates the body’s moisture better than cotton, and
  • dries 3x quicker.

The fabric draws let’s excess heat evaporate quickly so that we don’t overheat at night. If we do start to sweat the fabric dries quickly so that it never feels damp on the skin. By combining evaporative cooling with moisture wicking you stay cool and dry even when the temperature rises.

„When I was first introduced to Dagsmejan through my sleep coach, I didn’t know what to make of it. Honestly, I never believed it would work, but from the moment I first put on my pajamas from them, I could instantly feel it’s cooling effects on my skin and that same night I had one of the best nights sleep I’ve had in a long time. In training camp I usually find it hard to stay asleep, especially when my body temperature seems to rise as i get closer to a competition or an event, Dagsmejan nightwear helps me stay cool throughout the night and give me that sleep bliss. Honestly it has been such a game changer for me.“ (Ramla Ali, professional boxer and 2023 Time Magazine Woman of the Year)
