Event

Wed, 21 – Sat, 24 January 2026Canton Bern, CHEMürren

The International Inferno Ski Races are among the oldest and toughest amateur ski races in the world. Held annually in Mürren, they were first organized in 1928 by a group of "ski-crazy" Britons.

The highlight is the Inferno downhill race, covering about 15 kilometers with a vertical drop of over 2,000 meters, from the Schilthorn down to Lauterbrunnen, depending on snow conditions. In addition to the downhill, the event also includes the Inferno Super Combination, for which additional a cross-country and a giant slalom race must be completed. The number of participants for the downhill race is limited to 1850 and every year many competitors have to be turned away.

The Inferno race is known for its unique mix of sporting challenge, camaraderie, and alpine atmosphere.
